Biography

Prof. Vedamurthy A. B Professor and Chairman E-mail: vedamurthy15@gmail.com Dr. Vedamurthy A.B obtained his M.Sc., M.B.Tech., Ph.D degree from Gulbarga University, Gulbarga in 1999. He started his career as a Guest lecturer in Gulbarga University, Gulbarga in 1996. Thereafter he joined The Oxford College of Science as lecturer in 2000. Since then he had no looking back. During his tenure in The Oxford College of Science till October 2013 he has served in several important positions namely Reader, Professor & Head of Biotechnology Department and Principal. He has created a productive learning environment that is student-centered. He joined Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology, Karnatak University, Dharwad in November 2013. His specialization includes Genetic Engineering, Molecular Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Agricultural Biotechnology, Medicinal and Aromatic plants, Bioactive compounds, Microbial & Plant Pathology/Mycology. He has guided Two Ph.D and twenty five M. Phil scholars. Besides this, his research experience includes Junior Research Fellow, Research Associate and an M.B.Tech project on Tissue culture. During his vast teaching and administrative experience of sixteen years he has played a crucial role in developing and initiating several research projects namely establishment of Biotechnology Finishing School, Department of IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka, Micro propagation and Pharmacological investigation on Alstonia scholaris, VGST-Department of IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka. Some key positions are: Director, P.G. Studies, The Oxford College of Science; Coordinator, BT Finishing School program; Principal Investigator, VGST-CISE project; Co-coordinator of Mission Monitoring Cell and IQAC; Chairman and Member in several BOS and BOE such as in Biotechnology Dept., Tumkur, Gulbarga, Bangalore, Mysore and Kuvempu University, and Member of Governing Council, The Oxford College of Science and Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul Institute of Science & Management, Bangalore. As Director of P.G. Studies, he emphasized on globally competitive technologies. He has been elected to several prestigious academic and scientific bodies. Currently he is a Member of Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata, National Environmentalists Association, International Society of Biotechnology, Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy, Indian Science Congress Association, Bangalore Chapter and Society of Cytologists and Geneticists, India (founded in 1965). He also served as an Elected Fellow Member of National Environmentalists Association (FNEA), Fellow Member of International Society of Biotechnology (FISBT). His efforts as a teacher and as an administrator have proved him a man of diverse skills who aspires to establish an academic culture and educational program conducive to student learning and development. PUBLICATIONS AND PAPER PRESENTATIONS He has published a book for undergraduate students on “Biotechnology-4: A text book of Biotechnology”, published by New Age International Publisher, New Delhi 2002. His published papers include 45 papers in International / national journals, 3 papers in proceedings. He has presented 50 papers in International / national conferences. In order to upgrade his knowledge he attended many Research Training Programs. He delivered many Invited Lectures/key-note addresses at various Enterprises.
